How it works
At checkout, tap the QR code icon on your urble home screen, then scan the code displayed at the till (you have to let the cashier know that you would like to “pay with crypto”).
In urble, you'll be asked which crypto asset you'd like to pay with (ADA, BTC, or whatever you're holding), confirm the amount, and you're done.
The store receives its payment in CHF; you pay straight from your self-custodial urble wallet. Please note that only the money that you have in your urble wallet is available for this.
The standard behind it: Open CryptoPay
This works because Spar uses Open CryptoPay, DFX's open, license-free payment standard for crypto-to-fiat retail payments. It allows compatible wallets such as urble to interact with participating checkout systems, and merchants can accept it without special hardware. (Read more about the standard here: Open CryptoPay.)
Where you can pay this way
Not every Spar store offers this yet - the rollout is ongoing and growing. Check opencryptopay.io for an up-to-date map of which stores currently accept it, which are coming soon, and which are planned.
